OVERNIGHT HOUSE FIRE IN RINCON

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Rincon, GA — At approximately 4:11 a.m., emergency personnel from the Rincon Fire Department and the Rincon Police Department responded to a reported residential structure fire on South Howard Ave. Upon arrival, responders were advised that an elderly woman was trapped inside the residence.
Fire personnel made entry into the home and located the woman trapped inside a bedroom. During rescue operations, the fire flashed, resulting in injuries to a firefighter.
Rincon Police officers on scene immediately assisted by advancing a hose line and suppressing the fire, allowing fire personnel to safely remove the woman from the residence. The coordinated actions of police and fire personnel were instrumental in the successful rescue.
The resident was transported via Life Star to the Augusta Burn Center for further medical treatment.
The injured firefighter sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment.
Additionally, several Rincon Police officers experienced smoke inhalation during the incident. All affected officers were evaluated by medical personnel and subsequently released.
The American Red Cross responded to the scene to provide assistance to those displaced as a result of the fire.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. No further information regarding patient conditions will be released at this time. Updates will be provided as appropriate.
