The City of Rincon has adopted updates to its outdoor burning ordinance.

Rincon, Ga (June 9, 2026)– The City of Rincon has adopted updates to its outdoor burning ordinance designed to improve public safety, provide clearer regulations for residents, and establish consistent guidelines for outdoor burning activities throughout the city. The updated ordinance reflects the City’s ongoing commitment to balancing community needs with environmental responsibility and fire safety.

The ordinance revises and clarifies rules regarding outdoor burning, seasonal burn periods, permitted materials, safety requirements, enforcement procedures, and special event permits. City officials worked closely with the Rincon Fire Department to develop guidelines intended to reduce complaints, minimize hazards, and ensure burning activities are conducted responsibly.

Under the updated ordinance, seasonal restrictions remain in place, with outdoor burning prohibited annually from May 1 through September 30. Burning of yard debris and brush is permitted from October 1 through April 30 under outlined safety guidelines.

Additional updates include:

  • Clearer standards regarding approved burning materials and prohibited items
    • Safety requirements related to burn pile size, distance, supervision, and weather conditions
    • Enhanced enforcement procedures and penalties for violations
    • Removal of permit requirements for hand-piled natural vegetation and yard debris such as leaves and limbs
    • Procedures for obtaining specialty permits for approved special events and unique circumstances

The Rincon Fire Department will oversee implementation and compliance efforts, with the authority to investigate complaints and enforce the ordinance when necessary. Repeat violations may result in escalating fines and penalties.

“These updates provide clearer expectations for residents while helping ensure the safety of our neighborhoods,” said Fire Chief Lou Reed. “The goal is to create practical regulations that allow residents to responsibly manage yard debris while reducing unnecessary risks.”

Residents are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the updated ordinance and follow all seasonal restrictions and safety requirements before conducting any outdoor burning activity.
